Christmas Photos And What To Do With Them

Christmas is one of the times when the most photos are taken, and some of the photos I love best. The families are all together, and you see those great aunts you haven’t seen in ages. Everybody is gathered around a scrumptious dinner table, or around a tree laden with ornaments, or just hanging out drinking steaming mugs of hot cocoa. I mean how many great photo ops are there!!

Family dinners are really a great time to take photos. For one thing, there is the beautifully set dinner table. Many people take extra trouble to create gorgeous centerpieces for the holiday table. The plates are pretty, and the silverware is all shiny. Then there are the sparkling wine glasses. And then of course, there’s the special food for Christmas dinner – the ham, the gravy, and the mashed potatoes. Yummy! Laden with all of that, the dinner table is a great photo subject.

The Tree

Then there is the Christmas tree. This is likely the center of any Xmas celebration. Decorated with dazzling ornaments, the tree looks lovely. Often, many of these ornaments have a lot of meaning for the family. Some ornaments may be handmade, while others may have special photos in or on them. In fact, one of the suggestions I have about things you can do with holiday photos is to make special ornaments made with them, so they can be used next year, and the year after, and the year after.

Of course, the most important thing around Christmas time – and actually at all other times as well! – is family. The best part of Christmas is that the entire family gathers in one place. Grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins – they are all there. Sometimes even closest family members are generally not at home. For instance, the kids may be away at college. But come holiday time, they all gather together. It’s the time to catch up with everyone and everything. So take this opportunity to take plenty of photos of the family. These are the photos ultimately that will be cherished the most. I have found that one of the best things to do with photos taken at holiday time, or for that matter photos taken any time, is to create personalized photo gifts for the holidays. There can be many many different things that can be made from such photographs, such as warm blankets, and acrylic blocks with pictures.

Fall photos

Fall is such a beautiful season – one of my favorites. It’s quite warm and sunny, yet not unbearably hot. The kids have a brand new school year to look forward to. The holidays are looming in the not too far distance, so it’s something great to look forward to. And most importantly for photographers and just those who enjoy great photos, the beautiful auburn colors of the leaves are spectacular!

In fact, autumn is such an amazing season that there are numerous quotes about it. Take this one, for example:

[T]hat old September feeling… of summer passing, vacation nearly done, obligations gathering, books and football in the air…. Another fall, another turned page: there was something of jubilee in that annual autumnal beginning, as if last year’s mistakes and failures had been wiped clean by summer. ~Wallace Stegner

You can find many more quotes about fall like the one above.

I’ve picked three of my favorite fall photos. Do let me know what you think of them!

tree pathway

This picture seems to invite the viewer down the long long pathway between the trees. For me, it is mysterious and hopeful — what will there be when you reach the end?

colorful mountains I like the colorful hues of this one – with the yellows, oranges, reds and even the green thrown in. I also like the depth of this photograph, with the mountains in the distance.

baby on leavesThe innocent baby fascinated with leaves, sitting on a blanket of them – how cute is that? Also note how starkly in focus the baby and the leaves are in the foreground, and how they gradually blur in the background.

Photos I Love

There are so many photos of so many different things that I absolutely adore! And here, you can enjoy them too. Of course there will be many other things here as well — some upcoming photography events, information about famous photographers, things that you can do with beautiful photos that you take, and so on.

If you have any photos of your own that you would like featured on this site, let me know.
